Question of the Day

QUESTION: Why is it that this morning a large shepherd. . .

(Amos, the smooth-coated collie mix, with his woe-is-me look)

and an even larger shepherd. . .

(Jacob, the Belgian tervuren mix, with his I-have-no-idea-
how-I-even-fit-here look)

have denied their proud wolf heritage by curling up cat-style into silly floral-print chairs that clearly are far too small to contain all their canine fierceness?

ANSWER:

(Lincoln, with his don't-even-try-to-move-me look)

Of course it is because Lincoln the Cat Dog has beaten them to the still-warm bed and made himself a cozy nest out of the unmade covers.

BUT WAIT. . .

(Triumphant dogs, comfortable at last!)
Take that, you interloping cat! The shepherds stage a coup and reclaim their bed. Looks as if Lincoln still has a way to go before he makes pack leader.

I love them all! My money is on Lincoln though. He looks like a cat with an agenda who is willing to wait for the perfect opportunity to claim his alpha position forever. Beware, Jacob and Amos -- your days at the top of the animal heap are numbered!

How much fun to have 3 animals. I have been lobbying for a second dog to keep my Jake company and to make him get more exercise. So far I'm not hearing a lot of enthusiasm...

Oh, this is a stitch! You are SO right. Lincoln is definitely a cat dog!! That look tells all.

Barbara -- I highly recommend getting a second dog. My two guys are total pals, and I'm not sure what one would do without the other. I would recommend *not* getting five cats, though, at least not if your house is as small as ours is. We love them all and wouldn't dream of parting with any of them voluntarily, but it's a lot of cat for one house.

Willow -- Glad you liked the post, and sorry to have missed posting a comment to your blog on the day of the cyberball. Things have been a little crazy here so I have not been blogging quite as avidly this week, but I was there in spirit drinking Krug with you (and stealing a dance from Sir Anthony, of course). ;-)

OMG! This is hilarious!! When I saw the pic of Lincoln, I laughed out loud.

Amos my DAH-LING!! He is so adorable. Well ... they all are.

My Jake loves sleeping in the chair that's too small for him. I think it makes him feel safe.

Barbara & Reya -- do you think it's funny that we all three have golden dogs named Jake (which is what I call my Jacob at least half of the time)?

And we named them Jake independent of each other! I think it's a sign that we were destined to meet and enjoy each other's company.

Awww, poor Lincoln! He DOES look determined...

It's easy to see that the cats rule in your house. All of your dogs have become cats just to survive!
